Jacksonville Marching to keep the dream alive

January 17th local ministers lead the march from Norman Activity Center parking lot, thorough downtown to Sweet Union Church for organized celebration.

East Texans joined the nation in celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday.

Dr. Ianthia Fisher and 2010-2011 reigning Juneteenth queens for Crockett sit on the front row with attendees who braved several inches of water from the days heavy rain and the floods of the past rainy days to participate in the celebration.


Crockett, Texas - James Gentry was master of ceremony for the event with a welcome from Lonnie Hunt County Judge. Greetings were given from other Houston County elected officials; Sarah Clark, County Court At Law; Daphne Session, County Attorney; Bridget Lamg, County Clerk: Donna Casper District Attorney. Darius Kitchen introduced speaker Christel Phillips.

Financial contributions to support the program were made by Bethel Baptist Church, Saint Luke Baptist Church, Mrs. Della Newman, New Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Union Prairie Baptist Church, Greater Saint Paul Baptist Church, Progressive Baptist Church, William Chapel Church of the Living God and Dr. Willia Wooten.
